Cellulite Removal Treatments and How to Avoid Cellulite

Cellulite commonly occurs on the thighs and hips. It is formed when toxins are not eliminated and waste products start building up, fat cells grow and form hard pockets of fat, creating dimples in the skin sometimes referred to as “orange peel” or “cottage cheese skin”. You may be genetically more prone to cellulite, or lifestyle factors such as hormones, stress, poor diet, lack of exercise and drugs can affect how much cellulite you have. Prevention is of course best by following a healthy diet and taking regular exercise.

Cellulite removal treatments include liposuction surgery, where an incision is made in the skin, a tube is inserted and the fat cells are sucked out. Another option is Smart Lipo, which is a laser treatment to remove fat from areas of the face and body. The SmartLipo laser breaks down fat cells, which are then absorbed naturally by the body and eliminated over the weeks following treatment.

Other non-surgical treatments include Lipomassage which is body massage using an Endermologie machine. This works to break down the fat cells, smooth the skin and improve body contours. You could also consider cellulite treatment creams which contain ingredients such as green tea, algae, Bladderwrack seaweed, Retinol or Vitamin A. These ingredients can aid weight loss, help to rid the body of toxins, help to break down fat and smooth the skin. Creams cannot cure cellulite, but they can improve the appearance of the skin by smoothing out the bumps.

Follow these tips to reduce and prevent cellulite:

” Drink at least 6 glasses of water a day to help flush toxins out of the body
” Drink fruit juice at breakfast
” Eat fruit with breakfast or as a morning snack
” Avoid alcohol, caffeine and fizzy drinks
” Limit your intake of red meat and salt
” Avoid fried, fatty food and full fat dairy foods
” Eat meals made with fresh ingredients rather than processed foods containing salt, sweeteners and other additives.
” Eat more high fibre foods.

What you Should Know About Body Contouring Treatments

Body contouring is a term to describe the cosmetic surgery treatments that shape different parts of the body. There are many options for body contouring, each with its own set of benefits and limitations. The following provides highlights for what you need to know about contouring treatments. Be sure to consult your cosmetic surgeon for more details.

What You Need to Know About Body Contouring: Liposuction

Liposuction is a preferred cosmetic surgery procedure. Effective when used alone, or in conjunction with other body contouring methods, liposuction shapes the body by removing localized fat deposits. When diet and exercise prove ineffective, liposuction can target stubborn fat around the belly, hips and thighs, buttocks and elsewhere.

What you need to know about liposuction is that it should not be used as a tool for weight loss. Patients should be close to normal weight, looking for help unresponsive pockets of fat. Additionally, liposuction is not effective for issues with cellulite and excess skin. Some patients find it necessary to combine liposuction with another body contouring technique, such as a body lift.

What You Need to Know About Body Contouring: Body Lift

A body lift is a cosmetic procedure that lifts and tightens excess skin on various parts of the body. Individuals who have experienced significant weight loss, due to pregnancy or weight loss surgery, may have problems with hanging skin that has lost elasticity. Patients can choose a comprehensive approach, target specific areas of the body, such as an arm lift, leg lift, butt lift, breast lift and neck lift.

A full body lift is a complex body contouring procedure. However, for patients who have sagging skin throughout the body, comprehensive cosmetic surgery may be necessary. A body lift may also be combined with cosmetic laser surgery for stretch marks and scars.

What You Need to Know About Body Contouring: Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck is a cosmetic surgical procedure that tightens the muscles of the abdominal wall and removes excess skin. A tummy tuck can tone and smooth the appearance of the abdomen. Depending on your goals, results of a tummy tuck are enhanced in correlation with abdominal liposuction.

What you need to know about a tummy tuck is the permanent presence of a scar. There are two tummy tuck procedures: full and mini. A full tummy tuck addresses the entire abdomen. A mini tummy tuck targets the lower abdomen below the naval.

The scar for a full tummy tuck extends across the hips and can usually be concealed with a bathing suit. Mini tummy tucks will create a smaller scar. Also, surgical scars will eventually fade.

Body Implant

A body implant is cosmetic surgery that adds shape to different parts of the body. Body implants can be used to add volume to certain areas of the body that may be disproportionate. Common body implants are for pectorals, biceps, calves and the butt.

Unlike fat injections, the body will not absorb body implants. Many patients enjoy better fitting clothes and restored confidence. However, body implants are not the answer for sculpting the perfect physique.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is a procedure to enhance the size of breasts. Women who choose breast augmentation may do so for various reasons, not the least of which is to restore confidence. While breast augmentation has lasting benefits for the right candidate, it’s important to understand that breasts will continue to change with time. There’s also a likelihood that implants will eventually need to be replaced.

Why Ear Acupuncture For Losing Weight Works

, , ,

Ear acupuncture for losing weight has been practiced for centuries even if the thought of piercing needles into various parts of one’s ear sounds strange or crazy.

The ear, in Orientle Medicine, is a micro-system with points that match up some vital organs in the body. One’s appetite can be curbed once the needles are inserted into these points and your binging and overeating can be prevented while your metabolism can be speeded up.

Endorphins are released and you’ll feel calmer after ear acupuncture is administered. One’s stress, anxiety, and frustration will be relieved with the aid of these endorphins. What actually lead to overeating and cravings for fattening, unhealthy foods are often ascribed to these feelings.

Similar to needles, this acupuncture also stimulates the same points but with the use of laser.

The metabolism is therefore slowed down while your determination to keep away from overeating and eating unhealthy foods is fortified.

Increasing the Effectiveness of Ear Acupuncture for fat Loss

A patient is required to apply mild pressure to the bead or magnet if he/she starts to feel hungry during the treatment process. In this way, endorphins are released helping the patient to curb his appetite.

The effectiveness of ear acupuncture for weight loss treatment doesn’t mean that it is cure-all or miracle.

Certain points on the ear that match up the mouth for impulsive eaters, the lung for food and sugar addicts, and the endocrine system for water retention are helpful in ear acupuncture for weight loss treatment.

Chinese herbal treatment and breathing techniques are combined with ear acupuncture for best results.

This is for real. Ear acupuncture for weight loss treatment can be the way out to your weight problem and the treatment is proven to be highly effective. This can help you achieve your weight loss goals easily and quickly more than you expect especially with the help of other treatments and the necessary diet and exercise routine.

So, let me examine this issue with you in detail. How real is this possibility that Chinese medicine can help you with weight loss? To do that, we’ll have to look at several therapies, including acupuncture, diet modification, and exercise. And the first thing we’re going to do is look at the research. We’ll talk about the quality of the research, and the conclusions of each study. If the results are bad, we’ll try to figure out why. If they’re good, we’ll make sure the study quality was good too.

It’s likely that given the thousands of possible acupuncture point selections, and herbal formulas, that there may not be any research on certain parts of the Chinese medicine weight loss plan. Remember that there are levels of evidence- the best is certainly the level 1 double-blind placebo controlled study (considered the “gold standard” or best kind), and the worst is level 8, conjecture or common sense – but in between, when there are no gold standard studies, a level 5 series of patient cases (without a control group) does count for something. It may not be rock solid evidence, but neither is it easily dismissed. They demonstrate the need for more research.

An Outcome Study Using Traditional Criteria

In a 2003 Chinese study, 40 men and women (7 male) fit a specific set of symptoms , which in Chinese medicine define a pattern called Yang Ming Replete Heat. The patients also all had greater than 20 BMI’s, and more than 30% body fat. A specific acupuncture protocol , which often included electroacupuncture, was followed.

After 1 to 4 courses of treatment (which usually means 10-40 treatments, and in China they often treat every day or every other day), the results were as follows:

* Two cases (5%) were clinically controlled, and had fat reduction of up to 30%.
* Thirteen cases (32.5%) seeing a 9-10% reduction in percentage of fat.
* Twelve cases (30%) got a 5-8% reduction in percentage of fat.
* Ten cases (25%) experienced a 2-5% reduction in percentage of fat.
* Three cases (7.5%) got no result. Therefore, the total effectiveness rate was calculated as 92.5%.

The important characteristics of this study, which may be essential to acupuncture weight loss success, were:

* Pattern differentiation: Usage of points based on the Chinese medical pattern (Yang Ming replete heat), rather than just one point prescription for all weight loss situations
* Strong needle technique: Typically, Chinese acupuncturists use strong needle technique, which produces strong sensations for the patient. Not all acupuncturists practice this way. In fact, Japanese acupuncturists barely puncture the skin. Plus, some patients are quite needle sensitive, and Americans are pain phobic, so not all patients will allow this kind of treatment.
* Electro-acupuncture: This may be enough even if the previous technique is not used. The electricity increases the stimulation of the points.

As translator Bob Flaws goes on to discuss, most patients cannot see an acupuncturist this often, but herbs can be added to the treatment strategy to take up the slack. This is also where food selection according to Chinese medical pattern diagnosis, and the right exercise program come in.

Body Contouring Is An Expensive Surgical Procedure

Body contouring is a series of plastic surgery operations, which can be divided into two groups: lower body lift and upper body lift. Body contouring is the reshaping of the body’s problem areas and is a modern approach to cosmetic enhancement. Body contouring is also a safe and effective way to combat the unsightly sagging skin that often accompanies massive weight loss.

The cost of body contouring is a major factor for patients to consider and is yet another reason not to take body contouring options lightly. The reason that body contouring is more often performed on adults is because the body of young individuals, like teens, is still in the development process.

The superficial fascial system (SFS), the connective tissue network that resides below the dermis, has been implicated as a pivotal structure in body contouring procedures. This has the potential of changing or enhancing postbariatric body contouring outcomes, as the surgeon is dealing with large surface areas of tissue that need to be approximated under significant tension.

According to the American Society of Bariatric Surgery (ASBS), 200,000 patients will undergo massive weight loss surgery this year, and 75% of them will seek a plastic surgeon for body contouring after the weight loss surgery. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons statistics, approximately 68,000 body contouring procedures were performed in 2005 on patients who had experienced massive weight loss.

Fat accumulation tends to occur circumferentially around the abdomen and flanks. Fat deposits in the thigh and lower body area can be particularly resistant to diet and exercise. Body fat distribution is determined by gender, age, degree of physical activity, nutritional habits, and in some circumstances, drugs. In men, percent body fat may increase from 20% in young men to 25% in older men. At all ages after puberty, women have a higher percentage of body fat than men.

Health insurance does not usually cover cosmetic surgery such as body contouring. Some health researchers are questioning whether body contouring is growing too fast, without a medical consensus on its risks and benefits. Doctors performed at least 112,000 stomach-reduction surgeries in 2003, a 740 percent increase over 1998, according to the Nationwide Inpatient Sample, a database of in-patient operations at hospitals compiled by the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. You must be in good overall health and free of any active diseases or other pre-existing medical conditions that could complicate surgery and recovery.

Body contouring is not only suggested for those who have had a tummy tucks, but it is also recommended for those who have had children or those who’s bodies are changing with age. Body contouring is performed to enhance and improve your body’s appearance, and covers a variety of procedures. The best advice that I could give to a patient interested in body contouring is to research the doctor.

Liposuction surgery is one of the most common treatments for people who want to reshape their bodies and give the appearance of weight loss. Advancements in the area of laser therapies have introduced a new type of treatment, Zerona-Cold Laser Non Invasive Lipo. This means you can have similar effects of liposuction without the surgery or risks.

No strict diets or exercise required for this type of treatment to give you the body you have always wanted.  Doesn’t this sound like a dream come true?

Well here is how it works…

The Zerona procedure works through what is known as a “cold” laser.  This type of laser has been used for years in other applications including joint pain, wound healing, chiropractic and veterinary medicine. This treatment emits a cold laser onto your challenged areas, where the fat is located.  The pulse of the laser will then help to break down the fat deposit so that the body can get rid of it naturally.  In some cases, there have been patients who have lost more than 7 inches of fat in an affected area! The treatment is completely pain free and safe.

A patient will have to undergo a series of six treatments (usually over two weeks) for optimum results. Result can be seen within that period of time. Results can be significant and there are absolutely no side effects.  This is a painless way of battling the bulge, while simultaneously not having to worry about long periods of recovery.  Now that is definitely an alternative worth trying out!

If you think you need to lose some inches but are worried about the cost and the pain of liposuction surgery?  Zerona Cold Laser Non Invasive Lipo treatment is for you.  It’s a treatment that has been FDA approved, is 100% pain free and promises no side effects or downtime.  You can be up and running after every treatment. It’s available right now and you can consult your doctor or a specialist.

The goal of Advanced Laser is to give our patients a healthier, fresher look and feel, one that will give them a renewed sense of confidence and restore their sense of self-esteem. Learn more about http://www.islandlaserblog.com

Surgery After Weight Loss And Body Lift Procedures

In the United States today, approximately 31% of the population (59 million people) is obese, defined as roughly 30 or more pounds over a healthy weight. Nearly 65% of the US population is considered either obese or overweight, defined as weighing 10 to 30 pounds over a healthy weight. Numerous health problems can arise as a result of obesity, including diabetes, heart disease, and many others.  There are a variety of ways to achieve weight loss, all starting with the self commitment to improve how we both look and feel.  A proper balanced, healthful diet combined with regular exercise is the cornerstone of weight loss and achieving health and fitness.  Surgical procedures, known as bariatric surgery, surgery for weight loss, or obesity surgery, can also be performed.

After the tremendous achievement of weight loss, and particularly massive weight loss, many people are troubled by the excess loose and sagging skin and fat that remains.  The wonderful accomplishment of weight loss is often, and unfortunately, counterbalanced by the excess of the body, arms, and thighs that are both unsightly and symptomatic.  Thankfully, there are treatments that reduce or remove the excess skin and fat after weight loss, allowing people to truly reach their goals of both feeling and looking better.

The “body lift” describes a series of procedures that are tailored to the individual’s needs after massive weight loss. The Lower Body Lift, the Upper Body Lift, and the Thigh Lift are all body lift procedures that can be performed after extreme weight loss.

The Upper Body Lift removes excess skin and fat from the arms, underarms, chest, breast, and back.  Thigh Lifts remove excess skin and fat from inner thighs, and often outer thighs, and knees.  Every individual’s distribution of excess skin and fat, and their particular desires, are unique, and the different body lift “tools” can be tailored with the appropriate body lift procedure to satisfy one’s particular goals.

Lower Body Lift

The Lower Body Lift removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen, thighs, flanks, and back, while also tightening the torso and lifting the buttocks and thighs.  It is also known as a circumferential abdominoplasty, or dermolipectomy.  Liposuction is often performed as well.  Not only can excess skin and fat be removed with this body lift procedure, but the body can be contoured and “sculpted” to improve appearances dramatically.  This body lift surgery often requires an overnight stay in the hospital.

Upper Body Lifts

The Upper Body Lift can incorporate arm lift (brachioplasty), breast lift (mastopexy), and removal of excess skin and fat from the side of the chest wall and back.  Breast enlargement (breast augmentation with breast implants, or augmentation mastopexy) can also be performed should the individual desire. This type of body lift surgery is most often performed as an ambulatory procedure.

Thigh Lifts

Thigh Lifts remove excess skin and fat from inner thighs, and often outer thighs, and knees, and may incorporate the Lower Body Lift incisions. A Lower Body Lift is most often performed before the Thigh Lift.

Is a Body Lift Right For Me?

Body Lift surgery is only performed after you have reached a weight loss “plateau”.  It is important that nutrition and health are optimum prior to body lift surgery.  Once these are achieved, after thorough consultation with your plastic surgeon the specific body lift procedure and combination of techniques will be selected for your particular needs.

how to get rid of extra skin after liposuction and weight loss?

I have underwent a major weight loss, i used to be 300lbs, now i’m around 170lbs using the crush diet( fruits)+normal excercise.

I have stopped the extreme diet since 4months now I eat healthy (fruits, veggies, milk, protein), and excercise (cardio/weight). I also did a mini lipo on my chest and lower abdomen in feb 2007.The problem which i’m facing is that i seem to be having extra skin on my body (not the saggy type, only shows when skin is pulled), especially the top (breast, abs, arms). I know that the best way is through weight-lifting, which i’m doing already, but haven’t really noticed much difference. I’m also wearing a special suit which is used after liposuction to hold the skin. So it could be three reasons why it’s not going, either the suit, my excercise, or what i eat. Would appreciate some advise.

i would also like to know if there’s anything else that i can do to eliminate the excess skin (cream, medication, laser .etc)

Choosing between Smart Lipo and Smart Lipo with Aspiration

,

Liposuction, or fat removal, continues to be one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures across the world. For women in particular, liposuction can provide significant relief from those stubborn areas of fat that simply refuse to be eliminated through conventional methods of exercise and dieting. And as the number of people seeking liposuction continues to soar, developments in the sector have rapidly enhanced the variety of fat removal procedures available to cosmetic surgery patients.

For many surgeons and cosmetic clinicians, Smart Lipo (or laser lipolysis) is now becoming one of the most sought after treatments in the field. Unlike traditional liposuction, this is a non-invasive procedure through which fat cells are melted using laser technology rather than sucked out through a tube. However, further developments mean that patients can now choose between standard Smart Lipo treatments and Smart Lipo with Aspiration – a choice that is worth considering carefully before making a decision.

This difference between them is slight but significant. Essentially, the Smart Lipo process begins by injecting local anaesthesia into the area that is to be treated, in order to minimise any pain that may be caused by the procedure. Next, a powerful laser is used to melt the fat cells in the required bodily region, which breaks them down into liquid. Under a regular procedure, the liquefied fat will naturally seep out of the body for up to six months after the treatment.

However, with Smart Lipo with Aspiration patients will have the fat sucked out – or ‘aspirated’ – in order to speed up the effectiveness of the non-invasive surgery. This procedure is the preferred choice for many patients as it accelerates the rate at which the melted fat is secreted from the body and the results are immediate. As a result, this procedure is ideal for patients who want to see quick effects – for example, if you’re a bride hoping to show off your new figure at your wedding and a long recovery period is simply not feasible.

What’s more, Smart Lipo holds added appeal over liposuction for many people since it treats many areas that conventional fat removal methods cannot, such as the chin and neck. These areas of the body tend to be exposed nearly all the time, so speeding up the process with Aspiration is sure to deliver more satisfying results.

Similarly, if you’re about to go on a beach holiday and you want to get rid of any excess fat around your abdomen quickly, Smart Lipo with Aspiration is the natural choice for immediate results. This procedure poses obvious benefits over standalone Smart Lipo procedures.

However – as with any cosmetic surgery or treatment – it’s important to consult your surgeon on the risks and benefits before going ahead. After all, some side effects may still occur and it’s best to be aware of these prior to making your final decision if you’re going to get the maximum satisfaction from your fat removal treatment.
